3 Ways to Unlock More Time as a Working Mom

Oh no! You blinked, and your newborn is already a toddler

Time passes by quickly, especially when you’re busy.

And, omg, working moms are busy!

You hustle from home to work and back again, hitting your social circles and your chores in between.

You woke up this morning, and realized your baby transformed from a tiny, wrinkly rag doll newborn to an adventurous toddler, hurtling towards the next adventure.

You’ve been so busy doing all the things you’re responsible for, that time flew by in a haze.

As a new mom, that first year went by too quickly for me. I was working from home, while caring for my newborn. Between my work ethic, changing diapers, breastfeeding, baths, playtime, and sleep deprivation galore, I struggled to make space for the activities and feelings I had dreamed of having before motherhood.

Does any of this sound like YOU?

You didn’t get to do all the things you WANTED to do, because you were so busy doing all the things you NEEDED to do?

I feel your pain.

Time goes by WAY too fast.

Time is your most precious commodity as a working mother, because it can never be replaced.

What do you regret most?

If you type “biggest regrets for moms” into an online search engine like Google, over and over again you’ll see that a parent’s number one regret is related to not spending enough quality time with their kids.

So, how do you make space for those precious moments you deeply desire, while still bringing home the bacon?

I’ve got your back, mama.

Here are 3 things you can do RIGHT NOW to UNLOCK more time:

Let go a little.

It’s OK that the laundry waits when your toddler wants you to run them to the park. It’s OK that the house looks a little “lived in” during the day while your toddler runs wildly about, flinging toys in their wake.

Ask for help.

In our society, moms live with unrealistic expectations. It’s literally impossible to live up to all the different expectations that people put on us. To survive, we have to learn to ask for help, and delegate tasks to other people whose hands are less full at the moment.

Say “yes” more by saying “no” more.

This is the big one. Guess what happens when you say “no” when someone asks you to do something that isn’t in the scope of your job, or that sounds like more of a pain in the butt than a fun activity? You make space in your schedule to say “yes” to something that you ACTUALLY want to do.

So, how do you actually DO this?

If you’re looking at this and saying that this sounds a lot easier to say than do. You’re right. It takes PRACTICE. And it takes SUPPORT. You’ve got to have people on your team that will help you to make space for the things that are important to you.

If this kind of support is something you don’t already have in your life, take the first step today to gather it for yourself.

Don’t wait until you miss more precious time, and your toddler is off to school… and then college.
